Brian Goggin is a multidisciplinary artist utilizing nontraditional locations to create interactions with the environment through sculpture.
His works are influenced by site, material relevance, vernacular architecture, philosophy and literature. Goggin’s works often feature familiar objects in unexpected settings inviting the viewer to an experience of re-enchantment. Using a research-based approach, intuitive visioning and a wide range of materials, he re-imagines historic narratives blurring past, present and fictional contexts, offering new links within public spaces that seek to awaken existential dimensions.
Goggin has over 25 years of experience leading the design, fabrication and installation of large-scale artworks. He has created permanent public artworks for Yahoo!, Sacramento International Airport, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Avalon Bay Developers, Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, Palo Alto Arts Commission, Seattle Arts Commission and the San Francisco Arts Commission. He studied literature and fine art at Cambridge University in England and San Francisco State University. He has completed artist residencies at Djerassi Foundation, Stanford University, Bay Area Discovery Museum, LEAP and Project Artaud. He lives and works in San Francisco, California.
